Sorption of Pesticides in Soil and Compost

چکیده
A study was carried out on the sorption of the sparingly water-soluble pesticide linuron in various types of soil with different levels of organic matter. The sorption isotherms of the pesticide were obtained in bathequilibrium experiments and the data were fit to Freundlich and Dual Reactive Domain Models. In general, the sorption was the highest for the soil with greatest content of soil organic matter. The study also points out the global problem of handling the sewage sludge at wastewater treatment plants. We studied the compost made in Torun's Wastewater Treatment Plant during sludge fermentation. To characterise the compost organic matter UV-Vis and C CP/MAS NMR spectroscopy were used. Consequences of the compost use in agriculture are also discussed here. Particular attention is given to the changes in the behaviour of pesticides applied to soil in the presence of compost organic substances. The treatment of soils by the compost from sewage sludge may lead to increased retention or removal of hydrophobic compounds like linuron.

Sorption, degradation and leaching of pesticides in soils amended with organic matter: A review
The use of pesticides in modern agriculture is unavoidable because they are required to control weeds. Pesticides are poisonous; hence, they are dangerous if misused. Understanding the fate of pesticides will be useful to use them safely. Therefore, contaminations of water and soil resources could be avoided. The fates of pesticides in soils are influenced by their sorption, decomposition and m...

A study was carried out on the sorption of two sparingly water-soluble pesticides (diazinon and linuron) by a sandy loam soil modified with different exogenous organic materials (EOMs) containing humic-like substances: city refuse compost (CRC), peat (P), commercial "humic" acid (HA), liquid "humic" acid (LHA), and two (nonhumic) model compounds (surfactants), tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromid...
متن کاملEnvironmental fate of triasulfuron in soils amended with municipal waste compost.
The amendment of soil with compost may significantly influence the mobility and persistence of pesticides and thus affect their environmental fate. Factors like adsorption, kinetics, and rate of degradation of pesticides could be altered in amended soils. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the addition of compost made from source-separated municipal waste and green waste, on ...

The effect of different compost-soil ratios on the incidence of Pythium aphanidermatum causing tomato damping off was tested in a greenhouse experiment. The inoculum density of 5% was determined to be suitable for inoculation in compost experiments based on investigations of disease incidence with 5, 10 and 20% inoculum densities. To evaluate the effect of compost on incidence of tomato damping...
متن کاملThe kinetics of sorption by retarded diffusion into soil aggregate pores.
This study investigates time-dependent sorption of pesticides in soil aggregates. We tested if the sorption kinetics of pesticides in soil aggregates can be described by modeling diffusion into aggregates for a range of soils and pesticides. Our hypothesis is that the rate of sorption is negatively related to sorption strength due to retardated diffusion. Natural aggregates of 3-5 mm diameter w...
